Inside your Return to Sea Drifter, a small satellite transmitter is mounted on a shelf immediately beneath the silicone top covering of the stainless-steel container.  The transmitter has an internal antenna and battery power for operation up to one year.

For our Drifter tracking, we have programmed the unit to transmit Drifter position hourly. If however, the buoyant Drifter is bobbing wildly in rough seas, the internal antenna of the transmitter will not have a perfectly vertical aim at the satellites passing overhead.  During such periods, some hourly transmissions will not be available until the seas subside.
